Finished The Amber Spyglass last week. At around 5 in the morning. The last thirty pages or so are very upsetting. Wonderful books. Then I was able to finish re-reading The Unkindest Cut, and returned my overdue library books. Nothing else to report because I've been desperately trying to finish the latest "Angel" recap. And failing. I've still got the last act to do. Damn.

Despite last week's resolution, I've had no luck getting bookcases. Everyone carries the exact same model I have in white, and no one has them in black. Who'd want white furniture? Damn them all.

Anyway, last week I read The Golden Compass and The Subtle Knife, and now I'm about a third of the way into The Amber Spyglass. So go, me. But my brother still won't get to borrow them, because with all the snow I didn't feel like driving across town just to lend them to him. He will, I'm sure, cope. The series lives up to all the praise and recommendations. I love the ambiguity of it all -- Lord Asriel is a hero! Wait, no, he's bad. Well, maybe he's doing bad things for a good reason. Well, he's definitely a jerk, either way. Good stuff. I wonder what I'd think if I'd read these when I was in elementary school. I definitely would have cried a lot. Okay, I'd have cried more. But I do love the "anyone can die at any time" feel. Even if it's upsetting sometimes.

I have a lot of overdue library books. But it snowed last night and I have a cold, and I think they're going to get even more overdue. Oh well.

Stopped to check out Borders' remainder rack. Mistake. Bought: Lansdale's Bad Chili, Doyle's A Star Called Henry, Edell's Eat, Drink & Be Merry, Buckley's God is My Broker, and some anthology-type thing of "famous" love letters. They were all $5 or less, okay, and I only got the last one because if you got four books you could get a fifth one for free. So it's not that bad. Right?

These will have to wait, however, because I need to finish the Amber Spyglass trilogy. I'm currently halfway through the first book. The goal is to finish it tomorrow night, so that my brother can borrow it on Monday.

I'd have finished it by now, but I'm also at various stages of reading (or re-reading) The Unkindest Cut, The Redneck Manifesto, and Motherless Brooklyn.

I'm definitely getting two new bookcases tomorrow. I was considering just getting one, but only because I'm in denial.
